Q: Where is Blackwater Creek Koi Farms Located?

A: We have three farm locations;  two in Central Florida and one in North Florida.

Q: Does Blackwater Creek Koi Farms give tours or allow visitors?

A:  We have temporarily stopped all our farm visits. We look forward to re-opening in the near future and meeting with our amazing customers.

Q: I just placed my order, when will I receive it?

A: Koi or Goldfish: Orders placed by noon on Tuesday will ship Wednesday for Thursday arrival. Orders placed by 5pm on Tuesday will ship Thursday for Friday arrival. Orders placed after Tuesday may roll over to the following week. If one of those days doesn't work for you, please let us know, as we can make arrangements for it to arrive on a different day if needed.

Note: You will receive an email within 1-2 business days after your order is placed with a tracking number and details as to the shipping and arrival date.

A: Peanuts & Specials: Peanuts and Specials can be shipped on a more flexible schedule. Peanuts or any product named Box 1, Box 2, Box 3, etc. may ship the next business day, except on Fridays.

A: Koi Food or Merchandise: Our priority is to ensure our customers get the freshest food possible, so food is not pre-packaged. It is made fresh when we receive your order. On average you should have your food within 7 business days. If it has been over 7 business days please give us a call to check on your order status.

Note: You will receive a tracking number as soon as your order is ready to be shipped.

Q:How are your Koi and Goldfish shipped?

A: We use UPS Next Day Air to ship our fish overnight directly to your door. You will receive an email with a tracking number before it ships. Once the pick-up driver scans the shipping label, you will be able to track the progress of your order from our farm right to your doorstep.

Q: Do you ship internationally?

A: Yes, we ship all over the world! There are several regulations you must abide by when importing Koi and Goldfish. We have put together some import checklists for those wishing to purchase our fish from outside of the USA. Please use the links below to view the worksheets.

Q: Once I receive my new Koi, how do I acclimate them to their new home?

A: Our boxes have detailed instructions printed on the inner flap. The process is fairly simple and anyone can do it!

Unpacking Instructions

  • Open the box by peeling the tape or making only a very shallow cut. The fish bag is very close to the top of the box, so make sure not to puncture the bag while opening the box.
  • Keep bags out of direct sunlight.
  • Float un-opened bags for 20-30 minutes to equalize temperature. Do not open bags and add water from your pond or quarantine tank to the bag! (See important note below).
  • After the temperature equalizes, open the bags and dip fish into your tank with a clean net (or you can carefully use your clean hand). Avoid putting shipping water into your quarantine tank or pond.
  • Although not necessary, we recommend maintaining the salinity levels in your quarantine tank at 3-5 pounds of uniodized salt per 100 gallons as a prophylactic measure. This level of salt will kill ornamental plants in your pond, so do not add salt if your pond has live plants.
  • During quaratine, DO NOT mix our fish with those from other Koi farms or pet shops. That way if, during the recommended quarantine time, you see a problem, you will know where those fish came from and it makes it much easier for us to help you find a solution to the problem.
  • We recommend you maintain fish at 70 degrees or higher for best results. (82 or higher is best for healing).
  • Cover tanks, as new fish are prone to jumping.
  • Quarantine fish for 7-10 days prior to moving them to your pond. This is only a recommendation but it is the best practice.
  • We recommend feeding your fish Aquatic Nutrition diets for optimum growth and color development. This is what we feed here on our farms and it's what the fish are accustomed to.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT WATER EXCHANGE DURING ACCLIMATION: You may have purchased fish from a local pet store or garden center in the past, and you were advised to open the bag and add a small amount of water from your pond or tank to acclimate your fish to their new home's water quality. In situations where a small amount of fish had been in a bag for a short amount of time (transported from the store back to your home) this is perfectly acceptable.

it is NOT advised after receiving fish that have been shipped to you via overnight express carrier, (Fed-Ex or UPS).

This is because during shipping the water accumulates two waste products from the fish, ammonia and carbon dioxide. Although high levels of carbon dioxide can be worrisome in a pond it is actually of great benefit in a shipping container as it helps keep the pH low. This lowering of the pH keeps the high levels of ammonia in the shipping water in the ionized, non-toxic form. If the bag is opened during the acclimation process the CO2 begins to leave the water, in turn raising the pH, and changing the ammonia to the much more toxic form. If water is added to the bag this will almost assuredly raise the pH as well. This can and often causes great stress in your new fish and can cause severe gill damage!

Q: Do you offer a guarantee of live arrival?

A: Yes! We stand by the health of our fish, and as such we guarantee live arrival of our fish.

In order for our Arrive Alive Guarantee to be valid, you must have someone there to receive the fish.

We are not responsible for your fish if you are not home to receive the delivery. You will receive a confirmation email with tracking information so you will know when your package will arrive. Please be home to receive the package so you can account for all the fish ordered and acclimate them into their new home.

We must be notified within 3 hours of delivery time and DOA claims will require a photograph.

We recommend you sign up for UPS MyChoice to receive notifications on your shipment or to have your shipment re-routed or picked up at UPS.

Q: What fish food should I feed my Koi or Goldfish?

A: Our Koi are raised on our very own Aquatic Nutrition Koi diets from the time they come out of their eggs. It is an amazing food with high quality ingredients to ensure you fish get all the plant and animal amino acids they need to remain happy and healthy for years to come.
